100 Acts: Rotary Joins the Troops at Bennett Place Civil War 150th Event

Rotarians joined the troops and battled the rain and cold,
just as Civil War soldiers did, to volunteer at the 150th
Commemoration of the largest surrender of the Civil War
at Bennett Place, April 25-26.  With the urging of Rotary Generals
(board members) Sam Miglarese and Rob Everett, we
were stationed at the far outposts (parking lots), set up
equipment, and assisted the crowd to “stand in formation”
and to “march carefully” behind the Confederate and Union
military leaders as they rode their horses through the Bennett
Farm Place.
Below, Rotary “troops” reporting for duty at the Hospitality Tent,
wearing the Volunteer shirts provided by Rotary.

Program Report: Update 100 Acts of Service

100yearcommitteeWeb

The big smiles at the left of the picture are coming from Centennial Committee Co-Chairs Don Stanger and Brady Surles. The Hundred Acts of Service campaign to celebrate our club Centennial is racking up big numbers including setting a record for the number of people delivering one program.

The numbers that count though are tallied up in the widget on the sidebar that appears on the homepage and most other pages on the site. As of this writing we’ve blown way past 100 with over 700 acts. Howver, the number of members that have participated is in the low eighties or less than half of our active members. The goal is to get EVERYBODY involved, not just to show we can do it, but to create momentum going into our second century even more impactful than the first and the best civic club in Durham, in our district…in the world.

Below is the agenda for the program that identifies all the presenters and catalogs the opportunities still available for Service. Many of the Acts have been documented here on the web site. To find a particular one, use the search bar at the top of the side bar or to browse them, select “Centennial” in the category drop down list under the blue subscription form towards the bottom of the sidebar.
