New Member: Lisa Callaghan

Please introduce yourself and welcome new member Lisa Callaghan. Her biographical information is below. Lisa’s sponsor was Past President and Assistant District Governor Susan Ross.

Lisa Callaghan was born and raised in Charlotte and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Economics and American Studies. After a stint with Gurlitz and Giles Architects in Chapel Hill, she made her way to New York City. By chance, Lisa met Sam Michaels; the owner of a small cookware company called All-Clad Metalcrafters and was hired as the first corporate trainer.

Over two decades with All-Clad, Lisa played a pivotal role in taking this small American cookware company from obscurity to a dominant position in the marketplace. She created a team of regional culinary professionals to personally train and teach retailers and their customers about cookware and cooking techniques. This was a winning strategy, successfully driving sales and brand awareness. Lisa had the privilege of working with her talented team to develop new products and marketing strategies to meet the exploding interest in food and cooking.

As All-Clad’s fortunes climbed, so did the profiles of professional chefs. As the culinary liaison, Lisa built relationships and strategies to capitalize on chefs’ growing celebrity. She was honored to name and lead a group of distinguished chef ambassadors, including Thomas Keller, Barbara Lynch, David Chang, Paul Kahan, Marc Vetri, Nancy Oakes, Hugh Acheson and Chris Hastings. The chefs worked with All-Clad in their restaurant kitchens and via social media to teach consumers techniques to enhance their home cooking. With a team of great colleagues, Lisa developed a multimedia outreach, creating a website, events, videos and webcasts to support and magnify the impact of these high profile and highly coveted chef alliances.

Other highlights of Lisa’s professional life include leading All-Clad as the founding donor to Chef’s Move, part of Let’s Move; First Lady Michelle Obama’s national initiative to end childhood obesity. Lisa was also the chief liaison to Chef Thomas Keller over a 4 year period, as All-Clad developed and launched All-Clad TK, a complete collection of cookware from a chef’s perspective. In addition to her corporate work, Lisa and her husband, Patrick Mettes, opened North Fork Food, a seasonal cafe and market on the North Fork of Long Island. 

Lisa’s interest in food history, culture, cooking and restaurants has guided her professional life. She made All-Clad’s grass roots story a part of every retail training. She educated her trainers and consumers in the genius of All-Clad manufacturing techniques and used it to set the brand apart. She formed a network of business, media and nonprofit relationships that helped her understand trends and consumers, and led to new products and brand expansion. Throughout, Lisa has been inspired by the stories, spirit and determination of those around her and is happiest when translating those ideals into tangible form.

Now in Durham, Lisa is opening a new chapter. She wants to bring her love of hospitality and good food to her new home and is currently developing a restaurant with her brother, Kevin Callaghan; chef and owner of Acme in Carrboro. It will be casual and delicious and local.
