Reginald Hodges can best be described as a humanist. His values focus on individuals and helping people help themselves. He prefers critical thinking, evidence and science over religious dogma and superstition. Reggie left Durham in 1968 for a Peace Corps assignment in Sierra Leone, West Africa. The satisfaction of the experience led to a thirty-two year career in international development. Reggie worked in over 20 countries for a half dozen organizations. Reggie did not return to Durham until 2000. He was hired as Executive Director of the Durham Literacy Center. His Rotary Minute related to three values of Rotary, service, ethical living and social relations.
