District Endowment of a Peace Fellow

Rotarian David Durack and his wife Carmen presented Past District Governor and District Rotary Foundation Chair for 2017-2020, Newman Aguiar with a contribution to kick of the campaign to create an endowment to fund one Rotary Peace Fellow. Dr. Durack of the need to strive for peace in these troubled times.

Below is Newman’s letter announcing to campaign:

How are you celebrating World Peace Day?

In 1999, Rotary International approved the creation of Rotary Centers for Peace and Conflict Resolution.  As Rotarians, we believe that peace is possible.  But, we are people of action.  We don’t just talk about peace, we take action, by educating peace builders to make peace possible.

To celebrate 100 years of The Rotary Foundation and the beginning of our second century of doing good in the world, our District has created an endowment to fund the studies of one peace scholar each year, in perpetuity, at the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center.  This endowment was unveiled at the District Foundation Workshop, on September 9.

It is my hope that every Rotarian will contribute something, to help us reach our $1.5 million funding goal.  Whether it is cash or legacy gifts, see the many ways you can contribute on the attached pledge form.  Thank you to the Rotarians who have already made significant gifts to support the District 7710 Rotary Peace Fellow Fund.  The beneficiaries of the endowment will be named District 7710 Rotary Peace Fellows.

Together, because of your generosity, our investment will ensure that each year one more District 7710 Rotary Peace Fellow will go out into the world, armed with the knowledge and tools to help resolve conflict and bend the arc of history towards peace.

Happy World Peace Day!

Yours in Rotary Service,
